Session Title:

Desktop and server Virtualization at Statistics Netherlands (CBS)

Session Abstract:

- Statistics Netherlands (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek) is responsible for collecting and processing data in order to publish statistics to be used in practice, by policymakers and for scientific research. In addition to its responsibility for (official) national statistics, Statistics Netherlands also has the task of producing European (community) statistics.
- The IT department at Statistics Netherlands is responsible for the IT infrastructure, the application landscape (20.000 applications!) and the development of new applications.
Solution overview: Consolidation of 2 DCs into one new DC with 1400 virtual desktops and 150 ESX servers, located in 1 datacenter in Apeldoorn. Project description: From strategy, architecture and design to migration scenarios and implementation. The dos and don't will be presented.
With the virtualization project a number of problems have been solved:
-More stable and reliable environment
-More reliable backup and disaster recovery
-More efficient IT operation
-More flexibility for the user environment
Our implementation partner is Fairbanks (our valued VIP Enterprise-and VAC partner in the Netherlands)
Both the IT Director at CBS and a senior consultant from Fairbanks are willing to present this successful project in Cannes.
